2021 Skookum Spirit

Short Story Writing Contest

Here are the details for the 2021 short story writing contest and writer's showcase!

We strive to be transparent and run this contest with integrity.  The goal is to celebrate the art of the short story, support writers, and encourage independent publishers and bookstores.  We want this to be a fun and joyful experience for writers and readers alike.

Theme:     Quarantined

Deadline:  Monday, October 25

Fee:  $10 for submission

Word Count:  Not to exceed 1500 words.

Submission instructions:

Email story as a PDF to skookumspirit@gmail.com

Do not include author name on story (this is a blind judging)

In body of email include:

Title of story

Your name (first & last)

Your city/state (address not necessary)

If you cannot attend the Writer's Showcase and are among the winning entries, we will request a mailing address at that time to send the prize money.  However, we encourage you to attend in-person!

By submitting your short story you agree to allow Skookum Spirit to publish results and the story on its site.  Authors retain sole ownership and copyrights of their stories and Skookum Spirit cannot sell the stories. 

Payment:  There are two ways to pay the $10 fee:

Once payment is received a formal confirmation of your story accepted into the contest will be sent.

Limit:  Authors are limited to one story submission.

 

Prizes:   1st Place     $200

              2nd Place   $ 125

              3rd Place:   $  75

Writer's Showcase: 

Saturday, November 6

 6 pm

Location TBD.  We are hopeful to gather in person but also have plans for the readings to take place virtually.  Save the date!

The Writer's Showcase is where a selection of short story entries are read publicly before announcing the winning submissions.
